For the steak
  • 1 piece Tomahawk steak (about 2 pounds) Choose a steak with good marbling.
  • 2 tbsp Coarse salt Use generously for seasoning.
  • 1 tsp Black pepper Freshly cracked for better flavor.
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder Optional for added flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Butter For finishing and flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Let the tomahawk steak come to room temperature for even cooking.
  2. Season the steak all over with coarse salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Preheat your grill or oven.
Cooking
  1. Sear the steak on each side for about 3 minutes until deep brown.
  2. Shift to indirect heat and cook low and slow until it reaches your desired doneness (about 125°F for medium-rare).
  3. Remove the steak and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Slice against the grain and top with a pat of butter if desired.

Notes

Do not skip the resting time after cooking to ensure juiciness. Pair with crispy roasted potatoes or a green salad for a complete meal. Consider adding smoky wood chips to the grill for extra flavor.
